'Wagon Train' (1958-1964)
Starred Ward Bond as Major Seth Adams. Each episode featured the problems of one of the pioneers trekking their way in covered wagons from St. Joseph to Sacramento in the 1860s. (The series was so popular in the UK that Labour leader Hugh Gaitskell wanted the General Election of 1959 held on a day when Wagon Train wasn't screened, in case it kept voters at home.)
